The Pretty Pictures
A popular trade on HL is to do graphics. This means a player will fulfill an "order" of a horse/dog picture or layout for another person to use, in return for payment. Before jumping in and doing this the wrong way, there are some things you need to be aware of.
The Most Important Rules:
You must be serious about doing this.
You should have a proper graphics editing program, such as Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, Gimp, Corel, etc.
You must be willing to practice practice practice, it's NOT easy starting out.
You must be aware of copyright laws and using stock images with proper credit.
You can NOT simply take an image off google or any other site and add text, you must EDIT it.
Editing a picture means, cutting out a horse and adding it to a different background image.
If you want to do layouts for home pages, you must learn proper HTML and CSS coding.
If you use copyrighted images, or stock that don't follow the CC liscence rules, you can be in trouble with the mods, HL, and the owner can SUE you, breaking copyright is ILLEGAL.
For a layout, never ask a login and password to put it on for the player, you can be reported and banned.
Some Tips For Making:
Do not expect to get paid much right away, the price people pay will be according to how good you are.
Make premades, this way you can practice what you want, but sell them for lower prices.
Be professional in your handling.
Have a well-thought ordering system, whether it be a form or just guides for people of what to message you.
Be willing to deal with fussy people, and edit to their liking.
Have examples ready on your page or on request, this will determine whether they'd want you to make one.
Have your prices pre-determined, but be willing to negotiate.
Have a money horse/dog at the ready.
Always preview a watermarked version, and only supply the real one when paid.
NEVER ask a login and password, no matter how good your intentions are.
Some Tips For Ordering Or Buying:
Always ask examples and references.
Always ask for a preview before paying the player.
Do not volunteer your own horse as a transfer horse.
Check the credits to make sure it's legal, you can be in trouble even though you didn't create it.
Never pay more than the player agreed on at the start.
When bidding on a premade, look at the starting bid the player wants.
Never, EVER, EVER give out your login and password for a layout, have the player put it on a spare or email the code. HL cannot help if someone took your money/horses/account.
Cannot Afford Ordering Custom?
I, PixXy, started a free graphics site for the new players. Just because you haven't been playing long, doesn't mean your page has to be dull! But, rather than cluttering your page with super bright blinking glittering things, which just annoy people (and it takes so long to fully load no one can ever see your horses you might have for sale), get a proper layout. A nice layout automatically makes people take you more seriously and it just looks better! You can also have a nice design, that is fully legal.
